The play Waiting for Godot immortalised Beckett’s name and contributed to him being awarded the Nobel Prize for literature in 1969, but is his portrayal of human existence one of pessimism or possibility? This course will look at the literature of this Irish playwright, poet and novelist, and unearth the philosophical ideas contained within, including ethics, metaphysics and existentialism.
