This weekend course considers developing ideas of ‘identity’ in Literature, looking at selected texts by Shakespeare and Montaigne; Rousseau and the Romantic Poets; Lady Mary Montagu; and Jane Austen. We will explore this across a range of forms, including drama, poetry, novels, essays, autobiography, and letters, in order to explore how constructions of Selfhood have developed over time.
This weekend course is aimed at …all-comers welcome.
(While open to all, the course will be of interest to OU students studying A334 From Shakespeare to Austen; optional individual EMA supervisions will be available).
I came to Somerset to talk about Socrates and his search for the good life. And in many ways I found it incarnated in Dillington House. Here there is a love of beauty and truth. To find a sympathetic venue with an exquisitely rich history, open to all and encouraging debate, creativity and a passion for life is exactly the kind of thing that would have made Socrates smile. I can't wait to come back.
