The Course is suitable for those who already have a good working knowledge of common steps and formations in Scottish Country Dancing, this weekend will give you an opportunity to improve your technique, learn new dances and enjoy all social aspects of Scottish Country Dancing. The course starts with dinner on Friday, and social dancing to live music on Friday evening and Saturday evenings. There will be two classes each morning which will include technique and the finer points of steps and formations in dances old and new. During Saturday afternoon there will be an optional workshop or you could take the opportunity to relax in the grounds of the house or explore the nearby town of Ilminster. The course finishes after lunch on Sunday. This course is not considered suitable for beginners.

The Tutor

David Queen

David Queen started dancing at 5 years of age and qualified as a Scottish Country Dance teacher in 1993. He has taught regular branch classes in the north of England and workshops around the UK and also at RSCDS Schools in St Andrews, Pitlochry, New Zealand and TAC. He has also been very fortunate to receive invitations to teach around the world in such diverse locations as Japan, Russia, USA, Canada and across Europe.

David enjoys promoting good technique and derives a great deal of satisfaction from seeing dances performed to a high standard. His classes seek to help all abilities of dancer to achieve their own personal best whilst ensuring that they have fun!

The Musicians

Robert Mackay

Robert Mackay is a valued and regular member of the Argyll’s team. He has a long and illustrious career as a musician for Scottish Country Dancing. He has served on the RSCDS Publications Committee, organised and run weekend schools and the RSCDS musicians' workshops as well as travelling extensively world wide to play for clubs, classes and certificate courses. He plays regularly for the RSCDS Summer School and is a member of the Edinburgh Branch.

Judith Muir

Judith Muir has considerable experience playing for classes; she is the resident musician at the BHS Border Branch Monday Class, has played for numerous day and weekend schools including the New Zealand Summer School , Australian Winter School and St. Andrew's Summer School, and for several Teaching Certificate Courses in and around the London area, St Andrews Summer School and Russia. She is also the pianist with the Craigellachie Band. In her 'spare 'time she is involved in barn owl conservation and has recently started volunteering on 'The Rose of Hungerford' canal boat.
