A one-day course designed for beginners, and for anyone wanting to refresh their own practice. We will look at how traditional meditation is now ‘mainstream’, formulated as Mindfulness by Jon Kabat Zinn et.al., and used therapeutically in the NHS, schools, prisons, etc. We will have short periods of silent practice with different meditation supports, starting with the breath. This is a perfect introduction for those dealing with change or stress, or the simply curious.
There will be chairs to sit on (no special postures required!), but wear loose clothing and warm socks. If you wish to sit on the floor please bring a cushion and small blanket.
Hilary has been a practising meditator since 1991, studying with many distinguished traditional teachers, mostly at Samye Ling Tibetan Centre in Scotland and on an intensive annual study over several years at a Tibetan Monastery in India. She took the module in Tibetan Language and Culture at SOAS. She has trained in Mindfulness-based therapy with both Oxford and Exeter University Mindfulness Centres. Hilary continues to attend retreats annually, and since 2007 has been running regular courses and retreat days in Meditation and Mindfulness in the West Country. Meditation and Mindfulness chime in very well with her passion for opera, and with her involvement in community theatre as an actor and director.Back to List
