With a few notable exceptions, Art Deco architecture is born in Northern France as a response to the needs of post WW1 reconstruction. As it travels around the world, via the USA, it metamorphoses into a number of highly idiosyncratic and recognizable styles. It becomes synonymous with Hollywood, luxury, speed and glamour. Against the backdrop of its bewildering regional variations, the onslaught of International Modernism, the somewhat muted and less than enthusiastic embracing of this style by Britain will be examined.

I had a wonderful afternoon at Dillington House - exactly the sort of audience that authors hope for when speaking about their books. The questions were not only well informed but enabled me to fill in the gaps left by my original talk. I look forward to going back.
