England has some 16,000 surviving medieval parish churches – yet hardly any two are identical; the day course will look at the general design and regional differences, as well as what remains of carving, painting and internal woodwork. How the buildings functioned, and the often surprising documentary evidence, will also be examined.
Nick trained at Salisbury Art College gaining a Diploma in Art and Design. He has over 40 years’ experience working in archaeology and museums, including the Museum of London, the Ashmolean Museum and the British Museum, as an archaeological illustrator. He has worked in Britain, France and Italy and has taught Archaeological Illustration in Britain, Portugal, Italy and the USA. His special interests include the Roman Army and Roman and Medieval artefacts. He is a fellow of the Society of Antiquaries.Back to List Make Booking Enquiry
It is rare to find a venue - and an audience - so thoroughly dedicated to the enjoyment culture and cultivation of the mind as Dillington House and its visitors. As someone who hasn't lived in Britain for the past two decades, Dillington was also a delightful reminder of the beauties of English landscape and rural architecture. It was a pleasure to speak there and I envy those who can visit frequently.
