Is Political Communication all spin and no substance? What precisely are the "Dark Arts" and who practices them? Is it possible to learn the tricks of the trade yourself? This course examines how politicians have communicated with the electorate (using both historical and contemporary examples). It is run by a former Press and Media Advisor ("spin doctor") and offers anecdotal insights into examples of varied practices - the good, the bad and the ugly!
Max Stafford is a current PhD student at Canterbury Christ Church University. Prior to this, he was an Associate Lecturer in Politics and Global Studies at The University of Winchester and also at The Centre for English Identity and Politics. He has also been a Press and Media Officer for several politicians, including a former Secretary of State for Defence.Back to List Make Booking Enquiry
It is rare to find a venue - and an audience - so thoroughly dedicated to the enjoyment culture and cultivation of the mind as Dillington House and its visitors. As someone who hasn't lived in Britain for the past two decades, Dillington was also a delightful reminder of the beauties of English landscape and rural architecture. It was a pleasure to speak there and I envy those who can visit frequently.
