What inspired medieval men and women to give their lives to God? We will examine the lives and writings of four very different individuals: In the morning using early texts, we will explore the spirituality of St Dominic and his young follower, Catherine of Siena, and in the afternoon we will look at writings by two later Carmelite saints who were close friends, Teresa of Avila and John of the Cross.
Sister Elizabeth Rees is a Roman Catholic nun with a Master’s degree from Oxford. She has lectured in Early Christianity at Lampeter University and at Sarum Theological College. The author of eight books on Early Christianity, Elizabeth is Director of a House of Prayer in Butleigh, a village south of Glastonbury.Back to List
In its commitment to the arts and to broader and even peripheral aspects of culture, Dillington House is a beacon of enlightenment in a world of increasing sameness, mediocrity and uncritical acceptance. And there is much to be said for the home cooking too. I unhesitatingly commend it to all who are still intellectually alert.
