From Indiana Jones to kings under car parks and the Staffordshire hoard archaeology has the power to capture the public imagination. But this course lifts the lid on the real life adventures in archaeology that lie behind the headlines. We will look at how space-age technology and the latest scientific techniques are revealing extraordinary details of our long-dead ancestors’ lives. And we will also examine the tricks of the trade that archaeologists use to try to get inside the heads as well as the lives of ancient people.
The course will include a half day field trip as well as hands-on artefact handling sessions.
Dr Nick Snashall is the National Trust archaeologist for the Stonehenge & Avebury World Heritage Site. She has excavated on Prehistoric, Roman and Medieval sites across Britain and Europe. An expert in the analysis of stone tools, her research interests include prehistoric technology, landscape inhabitation and the archaeology of ritual and religion. She is currently co-director of the Avebury Between the Monuments Project.

I had a wonderful afternoon at Dillington House - exactly the sort of audience that authors hope for when speaking about their books. The questions were not only well informed but enabled me to fill in the gaps left by my original talk. I look forward to going back.
