Come and learn not only the history of the delightful age-old tradition of straw craft, but also try a fascinating new hobby, incorporating beautiful weaving techniques and attractive designs. Create a unique piece of straw work for you to decorate your home or to give as a present.
The workshop is suitable for complete beginners and includes a box of materials to create at least two items one being a horse shoe decorated with ribbons and flowers.

Tutor Information

I am 71 years old, I started making corn dolly’s at the age of 8 when I was taught by my granddad, not exactly taught but I sat quietly and watched.  I had almost forgotten all about it until a few years ago but have steadily built up a decent portfolio of different shapes, sizes and designs mostly from my head.  I have done quite a few talks and demonstration to the W.I. including workshops, as well as demostrating at numerous village fetes and craft fairs including Yesterdays Farming which has been held on the Dillington house grounds for the past two years, last year I won the best original craft in show.

I am looking forward to passing my knowledge on.

The audience at wonderful Dillington House proved, once more, to be intelligent, informed and engaged with the subject. It is a delight to talk at a place where the thirst for culture and knowledge remains both broad and deep. Giles Tremlett (2013)
