Chants are musical prayers, and some have been sung for a thousand years. They lift the heart and touch the soul. Come and learn to read the old notation and enjoy singing masses, hymns and canticles and appreciate why the music was written the way it was and how perfectly the notes colour the words. Ann Evans was a contemplative nun and studied the music, learning to lead the choir and to conduct it and loves the plaintive and moving sounds of the music accompanying the Latin and Greek words. All are welcome, beginners and experienced alike.
Ann was educated at convent schools, trained as a teacher and became a nun working in Tanzania, teaching and nursing. She gained a Diploma in Gregorian chant in 1965 and was Choir Cantor at the Assumption Convent, Kensington 1969-71 After 9 years, she left the convent and worked with War on Want and Intercare.
In 1977, she married the artist Kenneth Butler Evans, a painter and cartoonist. They had two daughters and worked together in schools and colleges with Ken's paintings and Ann's poetry; they also worked as healers.
In 1987, Ken died and Ann set up Ken Evans Prints, cards and books of Ken's paintings. Ann is a member of convent choirs in Suffolk, Sidmouth and Tanzania.Back to List
