Set against the backdrop of a European wide slowdown in economic growth and the beginning of successive waves of plague culminating in the pandemic Black Death of the late 1340’s, plus the failure of Capetian dynastic line in France, the architectural and design baton was handed to Britain. Here with a much more stable political and economic situation, Gothic developed into what has become known as Decorated. This has been dived into Geometric and Curvilinear. In France elements of this would be assimilated into what would become known as Flamboyant Gothic. In the area of Germany this would become known as ‘Opus Francigenum’. In Spain, the various principalities and Kingdoms, whilst being heavily influenced by French Gothic, would develop regional styles, most notably, Catalan Gothic.
This course will include a trip to Exeter Cathedral.

As a film-maker, I travel the world but few places offer such repose, intellectual stimulation and comfort. I can't wait to come back. My hat is most certainly off to all the hard-working team at Dillington. Their commitment to high quality service and programme innovation is truly remarkable. I thoroughly recommend it!
