We will take a chronological approach as we survey the features of early Islamic architecture from the Great Mosque in Damascus completed in 715 to the Alhambra, the fortified palace in Granada that was constructed in the 1300s. Our study will consider the religious and social rationale behind architectural design, its decoration and the furnishing of Muslim buildings.
Angie Smith has a first class degree in Art History and a PhD in Combined Historical Studies. She has more than a decade’s experience teaching undergraduates and taking adult education classes for Leicester University.
